Obituary for Winnie Ruth Lee Smith

Mrs. Winnie Ruth Lee Smith, 77, of Dunn died Saturday morning, July 7, 2018 at her home.

Winnie was born September 5, 1940 in Harnett County, daughter of the late Joseph Eldridge and Virginia Dare Lee. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clel and Harry Lee.

Winnie was a 1958 graduate of Dunn High School. She had worked for Kings Department Store in Goldsboro and Raleigh in her early years and had retired from Belk at Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.

Winnie was a member of Westfield Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Pugh officiating. Entombment will follow at the Sills Family Cemetery.

Winnie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Linwood Bruce Smith; daughter, Deborah Renee Kilgore and husband Scott of Fayetteville; sons, Linwood Keith Smith and wife Mandy of Dunn, Gurney Trent Smith and wife Donna of Dunn; grandchildren Ryan Smith, Jennifer Smith Collins and husband Justin, Max Kilgore, Evan Ruge, Frankie Ortagus, and Crystal Riley; great grandchildren, Hailey and Madison Ortagus, Justin, Logan and Brandon Riley; brother Micky Lee and wife Gail of Clayton; sisters, Betty Lou Lee of Pine Bluff, Martha Wrenn and husband Tom of Dunn, Kathy Barefoot and husband Thomas of Dunn, and Rebecca Strickland and husband Ted of Dunn.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Westfield Baptist Church, 700 N. Ashe Ave., Dunn, NC 28334 for the Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina.
