Obituary for William Jerry Hobson

Mr. William “Bill” Jerry Hobson, 71, of Erwin died Saturday morning at Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital. He was born in Harnett County on January 27, 1947 to the late William Silas and Lillian Ruth Hobson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mickey Hobson.

Jerry served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War. He worked for N.C. Products-Old Castle for over thirty years and retired as a vice president.

Jerry loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them play sports. He also enjoyed fishing at Holden Beach and playing golf.

A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at South Erwin Baptist Church by Rev. Turner Mathews and Rev. Charles Price.

He is survived by his wife, Rita B. Hobson, a son, Jason Hobson and wife Amanda of Hampstead, three grandchildren, Rachel, Zachary and Austin Hobson of Hampstead, two brothers, Larry D. Hobson and wife Brenda of Erwin, Dennis Hobson and wife Diane of Efland, a sister, Judy Barbour of Hope Mills, and a nephew, Brent Hobson and wife Lisa of Hampstead.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home. The family asks instead of flowers that memorials be made to South Erwin Baptist Church, 144 Old Cut Off Rd. Erwin, NC  28339.
