Obituary for Ruby Surles Wood

Mrs. Ruby Surles Wood, 84, of Dunn died Thursday morning at Rex Hospital. She was born in Wayne County on May 14, 1933 to the late Charlie W. and Christine A. Surles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Wood.

Ruby worked with First Citizens Bank in Dunn for few a years and then she was a teacher’s assistant at First Presbyterian Church Pre-School for 18 years. She was a member of the Christians Woman’s Club and a member of Gospel Tabernacle Church.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gospel Tabernacle Church by Rev. Randy Hill, Rev. Ron Wooten, and Rev. Sharon Wooten. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Patti W. Parham and husband Mike of Dunn; a son, Don Wood and wife Rebecca of Dunn; two brothers, Charlie W. Surles Jr., and wife Patsy of High Point and Jimmy Surles of White Lake; four grandchildren, Jennifer Harris and husband Tim, Amy Plavec and husband Joel, Elizabeth and Trey Wood; four great grandchildren, Gavin and Payton Harris, Tristan and Mia Plavec; sister-in-law, Gladys Wood; and brother-in-law, Larry Wood and wife Sharon.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Gospel Tabernacle Church.
