Obituary for Rachel Jernigan Hicks

Mrs. Rachel Jernigan Hicks, 91, of Benson passed away peacefully Saturday, July 7, 2018 at her home. 

Mrs. Hicks was born February 14, 1927 in Johnston County daughter of the late Elbert and Myrtle Stephenson Jernigan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Huey Burke Hicks; sons, Wayne, Tim and Randy Hicks; sisters, Ruby Parrish, Edna Black, Iva Core and Christine Matthews. 

Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Way of Life Baptist Church in Clayton. She loved her family, fishing, gospel music and cooking. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Johnson and Rev. L.E. Godwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Fellowship Community Cemetery on Fairground Rd. 

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her daughters, Sherry Roberts and husband Ronnie of Benson,    Sandra Best and husband Randy of Clayton, Vicky Lindblom of Benson; son, Roger Hicks and wife Dixie of Zebulon; brothers, Roy Jernigan and wife Billie of Dunn and Raymond Jernigan and wife Jean of Raleigh; sister, Joyce Williams of Dunn; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Skinner & Smith Funeral Home in Dunn and at other times at the home.
