Obituary for Joyce Parker Royster

Joyce Parker Royster died peacefully December 10th in Wellington, Florida. She was 70.

Ms. Royster was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was born on May 20, 1948 and raised on a farm near Four Oaks, NC. She graduated from Four Oaks High School and Campbell University and taught school for several years before becoming a realtor.

Ms. Royster was an out-going person who could strike up a conversation with anyone. She embraced new people and places, living in several communities including Raleigh, NC; Blacksburg, VA; Monterey, Va; Greenville, S.C; Rifle, Co; Emporia, KS; and Perry, Ga; before calling Greenville, NC home for more than 25 years.

She was a hard worker who achieved professional success in real estate and volunteered at her children’s schools and The Greenville Service League. She enjoyed playing tennis, laughing with her ‘Bunco Babes,’ and entertaining everyone with her quick wit and clever puns. She was fun-loving and would often lighten circumstances with humor.

She is survived by her daughter Amy Royster Bridger and son-in-law George Ryan Bridger of West Palm Beach, Fla; her son and devoted caregiver Jeffrey Frederick Royster of Greenville, NC; her grandchildren Daisy Lemay Royster; Annabel Elizabeth Bridger and George Ryan Bridger, Jr.; her siblings Jerry Parker, Sr and Janice Parker of Four Oaks; many nieces and nephews, and her beloved pet dog Bear. She is preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Delbert Parker, and her sister LaRue Hines. She was married to William F. Royster for 35 years.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. The family will receive friends at 319 Bremerton Drive. A graveside will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, December 16 at Parker Family Cemetery on Parkertown Rd. Four Oaks.

The family suggests memorial donations may be directed to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at

Arrangements by Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
