Obituary for Elgie Grey Stone

Elgie Grey Stone, 88 of the Plain View Community died Monday November 13, 2017. The Sampson County native was born September 28, 1929, the daughter of the late Wilburn and Gertie McLamb. She was the oldest of 8 children.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Hawley David Stone. 

Mrs. Stone was a faithful member of Spring Branch Baptist Church where she served as Church Treasurer, and on the Homecoming, Personnel, Finance and Nominating Committees.  Mrs. Stone worked for more than 30 years with Tart Lumber Company in Wade, NC.  She also worked for Godwin Mfg in Dunn and was owner and operator of The Children’s Shop of Dunn.  

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday November 17, at Spring Branch Baptist Church.  Entombment will follow at Lee’s Chapel Williford Cemetery.   

Mrs. Stone is survived by son, Dwight D. Stone and wife Diane of Greensboro; a daughter, Ellen Stone Edwards and husband Ray of Raleigh; grandchildren, Meredith Stone Smith and husband Will, David B. Stone and wife Jamie, Jennifer L. Stone, Hollie R. Edwards, and Parker S. Edwards; and great-grandchildren, William Smith, Ben and George Stone.   

Visitation will be 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., Friday November 17, at Spring Branch Baptist Church.   

Memorials may be made to Spring Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 2391 N. Spring Branch Road, Dunn, NC 28334.
