Obituary for David Clifford Pate, Sr.

Mr. David Clifford Pate, Sr. 95, of Dunn died Sunday evening at the N. C. State Veterans Home in Kinston. He was born in Harnett County on June 21, 1923 to the late Frank and Myrtle Pate. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Pate, a brother, Gerald Pate and a sister, Myrtle Partin.

David Served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. He served in a M*A*S*H unit during the Korean War and received the Bronze Star. He was a past president of the Retired Officers Association of FT. Bragg, and personnel officer at Womack Army Hospital.

He was a member of the Cape Fear Kiwanis Club, where he was a past president, and chairman of the Eastover Water and SanitationProject.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home by Dr. Len Keever. Burial with military honors will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.

He is survived by three sons, Ronald Pate and wife Elise of Atlanta, GA, John Pate and wife Phyllis of Knoxville, TN, David Pate II and wife Kim of Winterville, NC, a daughter, Susan Funderburk of Charlotte, NC, a sister, LaRue Linnekin of Williamsburg, VA, seven grandchildren;  Michael Farrior, II and wife Rachel, Alan D. Pate and wife Erin, Jon Pate, John B. Pate and wife Rachel, Julie Pate, Brian Pate and Nathan Pate, a great granddaughter, Brooke N. Farrior.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Shagtime Youth Foundation, P.O. Box 2033 Indian Trail, NC 28079.
