Obituary for Barbara Ann Plyler Hamby

Mrs. Barbara Ann Plyler Hamby, 77 of Erwin, died Monday December 4, 2017 at her home.  She was born August 20, 1940 in Lancaster, SC to the late G.B. and Ella Catoe Plyler.  Mrs. Hamby was also preceded in death by her husband, Tip Leon Hamby; and four brothers, Gene, Jack, Frank, & Allen Plyler, and sister Mattie Goodman.

Mrs. Hamby began her working career as a hairdresser and later became the Activities Director for the Erwin Community Center, a position she held for over 20 years.  Mrs. Hamby loved gardening, crafts, working with senior citizens, and cooking for her grandchildren.  She also served meals with Meals on Wheels and was a member of Erwin United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Whitman officiating.  Burial will follow in Erwin Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hamby is survived by one son, Tracy Hamby and fiancée Leslie Wood; daughter, Anita Dorman and husband Eric; three brothers, Don Plyler, Edward Plyler and wife Debbie, Grady Plyler and wife Berdina; sister, Linda Plyler all of Lancaster, SC; two grandchildren, Logan and Abbie Hamby; sisters -in-law Elfreda Plyler of Lancaster, SC, Barbara Plyler of Austin, TX, and Marlene Plyler of Saginaw, MI.

Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
