J. Nowell Smith, III

J. Nowell is the son of the late J. Nowell Smith, Jr. who served this community for more than thirty years in funeral service. J. Nowell started working with his father in 1979, learning the business from the ground up. He worked several years with Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville. In 1994 he began working at Skinner Funeral Home with Pete Skinner. In the summer of 2003 he became owner and president of what is now known as Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
He is married to Ava Hartley Smith also a Dunn native. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Dunn, a member of Palmyra Masonic Lodge # 147, a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. An active member of the Dunn Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, a board member of Dunn Area Committee of 100 and a past chairman of Harnett County Ducks Unlimited. |
J. Nowell is a lifelong resident of Dunn, a graduate of Dunn High School in 1982 and a 1989 graduate of FTCC School of Funeral Service with an Associate's Degree in Funeral Service.
